Halloween 2022

Halloween is CREEPING up on us! And I for one cannot wait!!!

I love Autumn, and Halloween is one of my absolute favourite festivals to celebrate – especially with the kids, and it's one that we have always done as a family.

This year, I thought I would share a few of our most favourite Halloween activities, that the kids ask for year after year. They are simple and easy to achieve, so no need to fork out loads of cash – winner!

Pick-a Pumpkin

Pumpkin picking has become even more popular over the last few years, and the kids absolutely LOVE to choose their own pumpkins! It's a great way to get out in the fresh air and a lovely activity to do as a family or with friends.

We always go to our local farm. They do some wonderful displays and there's so much to see, hear and do as well as choosing our pumpkins! Check out what's going on in your local area.

Spook-tacular Halloween Playdough

Everyone loves play dough! Its a great activity for fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and those all important imaginative skills. As well as providing opportunity for you little Dinks to learn some basic science and gain knowledge & understanding of how a combination of ingredients can turn into different media!

Ingredients

1 cup of flour

2 tsp cream of tartar

½ cup salt

1 tbsp cooking oil

1 cup of warm water

Food colouring – for Halloween vibes we recommend orange, black, purple or green

Extra spooky bits.

Googly eyes

Pipe cleaners

Glitter

Halloween cookie cutter shapes

Method

Mix the food colouring with the warm water first.

Add the vegetable oil

Add the dry ingredients and mix well until it starts to form a ball

Leave to cool

Once cool, knead for 2 mins.

Ghoul-tastic Halloween Gloop

This activity is a great and easy way to get even the smallest Dinks involved at Halloween.

Gloop is a fabulous sensory activity with a unique texture which is great for little hands to explore and discover the concepts of solids and liquids.

You can adapt this activity for older ages groups by adding things such as plastic spiders, worms, and even googly eyes!

All you need is:

A large mixing bowl or plastic tray

Corn flour

Warm water

Food colouring – optional

Method:

Put some corn flour into your bowl/tray

Slowly add warm water and encourage you little Dinks to stir with a spoon or even their fingers, until you get the desired consistency

(Gloop is hard and runny, you can pick up a chunk, hold it in your hand and it will literally turn into liquid and run out – it’s crazy!)

WARNING! This activity is super messy – but clean-up is easy peasy! Gloop can be picked up, wiped with a damp cloth and easily comes off clothes in the wash.

I would however, recommend wearing an apron!
